Current job status and what it entails: I am currently employed by Ernst & Young in the position as a Trainee Accountant serving my articles. I work in the Durban office in the Retail and Consumer Products Division. I audit companies and other corporate entities. Basically I work within a team and based on the work that we do, the partner will express an opinion on the financial position of the particular company.

Richard Tagg, who completed his degree in Accounting at Rhodes University, recently passed his Public Practice Exam and is now doing his articles at Ernst & Young.
1. Why did you choose a career in auditing?
I initially did a degree in Information Systems, but did not feel like doing honours. Rhodes University was good times, and I was not ready to leave, so in order to stay for an extra 2 years, I did accounting. It was between law and accounts, and I felt more comfortable in my accounting ability.

1. Why did you choose a career in auditing? I wanted to be a CA, as it represented an exciting opportunity. I wanted a career that would allow me to prosper both socially and financially. This type of career does not restrict a person and provides you with various opportunities to travel and work overseas as well as to work at the best companies in the world or even start your own business.

A: In order to qualify as an ACCA member, you will need to complete:
• 14 exams (nine of which are eligible for exemption);
