Q: Hi There,
First of all I would like to say that your web site is a heaven sent.  I have been searching this issue I have on the internet for weeks and I can't seem to find any information that might send me in the right direction.  I hope you guys can help.

I am a prosecutor in Mpumalanga, I have a BA Law degree.  But this is not my issue, I don't want to be in the law anymore.  The more I think about it the more I realise to study law wasn't such a cool idea in the first place.  In the mean time I have decided what I wanted to do I just don't know how to go about it.  It is totally out of my field of knowledge and I reckon that I have to start right at the bottom to do this.

Suiting up!While a small handful of students have the luxury of studying only for the sake of personal growth and cerebral stimulation, the vast majority are motivated by a force far less noble: the desire to get a good job. This factor requires us to question, when choosing a course of study, the extent to which an academic programme will make us employable. One might argue that there exists a simple heuristic: select a ‘scarce skill’ (in South Africa careers underpinned by maths and science are prime examples) and study towards that vocation. However, this rule-of-thumb does not serve those of us whose aptitude and passion lies in an area not classified as a ‘scarce skill’ vocation.

So what is exactly is it that you do? I talk for a living. From voice overs to speeches, TV and radio

Why in the world would you choose a career in radio?
It chose me! I was going to be an accountant – was too young according to my dad to study my course - changed to a BDram degree instead and finished it, and moved from CPT to JHB to work.

So what is exactly is it that you do?As a graduate engineer you leave university and realise just how little you actually know. The first few years of work are a big learning curve where you are taught the finer details of your chosen field within civil engineering. As a result I am currently working on prestressed bridge designs for the Gautrain project, and anything else my boss tells me to do.

Why in the world would you choose a career in Engineering?
Civil engineering comprises many different fields, so if you don’t enjoy doing the same thing everyday then engineering may be what you’re looking for.

Q: What is the syllabus that you have to study when pursuing a career as a chartered certified accountant?

A: In order to qualify as an ACCA member, you will need to complete:

• 14 exams (nine of which are eligible for exemption);
