Not really knowing what to expect before this interview, I quickly read through Catherine Webb’s background information and found that she is quite an accomplished twenty year old. Knowing that she had her first novel published at fourteen makes you kind of nervous for the interview – I mean what kind of person is this?

Apparently I wasn’t wrong, this third year student, who is reading for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at the London School of Economics (yes I repeat the London School of Econimics!), says her life is pretty much as normal as any other twenty year olds.

Zayn Nabbi

Zayn Nabbi journalist, game show contestant, guest television presenter and co-author of Transformation in Rugby…..that’s some major achievements for the young lad from the East Coast of Durban!

When we last spoke with Zayn he had completed his B.Tech in Journalism and was writing for the Independent Newspapers in Durban. He has since made waves in South Africa by being a contestant on Survivor South Africa, which also highlighted one of his worst moments of this year, “Definitely eating raw fish!” (FirstStep note: well said mate, we like food but the cooked kind!).

FirstStep.co.za's article of 2007!

Investing your time in knowledge is an awesome strength and tool to have. But what happens when you combine strengths, i.e., brains and brawn?
It’s cricket World Cup time and we salute three contributors that helped shape the game through the use of knowledge gained from either education or experience combined with the muscle of cricket to achieve monumental and memorable success.

The “tactician”- Imran Khan, read for an undergraduate degree in economics at Oxford University, Keble College. Khan captained Pakistan to their first and only cricket world cup tournament victory in 1992. A true athlete, Khan commanded respect as a leader from his team and as a dashing adversary from his opponents. Having reached the twilight of his career, it was his cricketing experience and education that brought about a unified victory from an extremely young Pakistani team. Using his all-round skills as a bowler and a batsman, he made sure his opposition never saw anything like this new spirited Pakistani team. He created a new era for Pakistan cricket and opened up the world to a faster, more fluent limited overs game.

Kirsty Hannaford

First things first, what do you think of the all new FirstStep?
Very nice – looks like you’re moving up in the world :)

What new developments have happened since we last spoke? Check below for Kirsty's first interview with us!
Um…. Completed a project I was running on campus. Oh – and bought a house (very scary!!!)

Q: I’m currently looking for a job, perhaps at a restaurant. I would like you to help me by giving me some names of agencies or websites that may help me.  I don’t have any restaurant experience.

A: There are a number of routes you may want to take when looking for a job at a restaurant, for example. Be proactive and go to a number of restaurants where you live and ask them if they are looking for any help and offering any jobs. You may find there is a position open for a waitron or a runner or even a dishwasher.
