I want to be a Brand Manager SLASH Marketing Manager

Branding, its all about being seen and known! Without it brand knowledge/education would be non-existence. There are people responsible for getting your attention to focus on brands alone! These people are known as Brand Managers or Marketing Managers…

From a basic concept of product placement to huge Television advertising campaigns, marketing managers are responsible for creating an extended reach to their potential consumers and current users. It’s a simple equation of a user having more knowledge of the benefits of a product/service which allows them to choose the one they are more enticed to do so over its competition. This is done by pricing, packaging, placement and awareness. By creating a larger reach, the marketing manager now creates a greater opportunity for a bigger revenue stream.

You know them, you hear about them and you definitely can recognize them. It’s those people whose names mean so much more than just a set of letters, it’s those people who used their name to facilitate and create new ideas and products! Barring Hollywood and the Music World, we look at the top ten living people who have built a positive career from becoming a brand of their own, by using popular culture, media and keeping in touch with current trends here’s our top ten list!

1. Barack Obama: Surely first placed as the man of self made brands. He has books, television adverts, YouTube and a fan base that resembles the entire Facebook database!
Check out his website for more on the man! http://www.barackobama.com

2. Richard Branson: The man who wants to conquer space (http://www.virgingalactic.com) to go along with his Virgin Brand…He lives the brand, he breathes the brand and he is the brand. The Virgin Website is super comprehensive and really cool, this is certainly a man with a brand!

This July/August, I had the opportunity to participate in an internship program through Wits Business School and Ernst & Young.

Ernst & Young being one of the big 4 auditing firms, was  ranked this year amongst the top 5 employers to work for in South Africa. Conveniently located across from the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, the head office is ultra-modern, sparkly-clean and open-plan design along with purdy little fountains.  The concept of ‘hot-desking’ and wired hot-spots, means the new, mobile worker able to plug in at any point is utilized.  Ernst & Young have succeeded in creating an environment where people are always willing to reasonably lend a hand; all you need to do is ask.

So we live in big bad world of fighting off large hordes of cannibals, flying through air raids, saving the world after you discover that you have the power of a thousand tigers….then you wake up! And the reality of your long hard day at the office, lectures, gym etc kick in….you crawl out of bed and make it to the bathroom, gazing into the mirror you realise that the stubble you destroyed yesterday is back! After verbally abusing all existence of hair you gear up for the daily battle of stubble and the mammoth mission of finding the perfect hairstyle.

So what are the do’s and don’ts of shaving and general hygienic trends for guys, we hit the internet with great gusto to find out the facts!
