The solar system is an awesome place. Planets, stars, asteroids, you name it, it’s got.

Closer to home, here on planet Earth, human beings are adapting to an ever changing environment;, be it natural, technological or even commercial, the planet we live on is a dynamic, ever changing, fluid like place! Sounds complicated, I mean, filtering down, through the solar system, to the very point at which an individual is standing on, should be a calculable procedure, but sometimes, it's just pure luck! In 1991, such a bit of incredible luck occurred with the discovery of a mummified Iceman in the Ötztal Alps, of South Tyrol, Italy.

I travelled to Italy in search of this world famous Iceman, aptly named Ötzi, after the place of his discovery. The mummified Ötzi is known to be one of Europe’s oldest examples of an ancient human being, and he is now, quite oddly, a celebrity amongst his human predecessors.

Jean-Pierre Koenig: Collaborating a career

"...discipline, hard work and self-belief in order to “conquer” it." - Jean-Pierre Koenig

Where on the planet are you currently located ? Durban, South Africa.

You are about to qualify as a Chiropractor, how did you go about pursuing this career and was it always an aspiration of yours? My high school counselor once said to me that the best professionals are always those who have started their university careers with a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA). The reasons for this are two-fold. Firstly, by studying a BA one has the freedom to choose from an array of subjects – be it Shakespearean literature to Statistics, Psychology to the Performing Arts hence broadening ones mind and allowing one to grow intellectually and in maturity. Secondly, the 3 year BA program provides one with time to look deep within one-self and realize which career path one would like to follow.

The Environmental and Conservation Industry

The Environmental and Conservation Industry

Africa, as a continent, is large, and densely populated, in various places, but at the same time, wild and untouched, in many others. A  continent,  rich in natural resources, home to incredible  inhabitants, and sadly, the land of many endangered species. Be it aquatic or land based, cold or warm blooded, eight legged or botanic, all living organisms, even microscopic ones, need to be cared for.

The Stats:

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (ICUN) provides a full breakdown of the world’s most endangered species. It’s a sad read, but a much needed shock to the system.

"Business journalism and business writing are like this – once you prove yourself, you will always be in demand" - Iwona Tokc-Wilde

Where on the planet are you currently located? South coast of the UK, a 10-minute walk from a seven-mile-long sandy beach actually.

You are a freelance journalist, how did you go about pursuing this career?  I come from a financial and business consultancy background, and have built up my freelance writing business (journalism and copy-writing) starting from that base, gaining experience and contacts with editors and publications 'on the job'. This – rather than doing a journalism degree - is not uncommon among freelance journalists. Many people can write but not everyone will have relevant insight or sector experience. As I write on business and finance topics, my background and industry knowledge are in some respects more valuable than my writing skills. (FirstStep.me takes notes!)

Our world is a landscape of design.  Everywhere you look, everything we touch. From skyscrapers, graffiti, fashion, movies, technology platforms, advertising, even the interior of vehicles!  Where there is an idea, wherever there is an object, there is a design aspect, and it can be created. Welcome to the creative world of design!

What is Design? It is the movement from an idea, to a concept, to achieve a purposeful goal.

Where does it exist? Everywhere! The Planet is Your Canvas!

What are the various areas of design that individuals can specialise in?

Design is infinite. A person can design any number of things. From the Burj Al Arab building in Dubai, through the makeup and costume designs in Michael Jackson's Thriller video, and Darth Vader’s outfit,  to even the person who decided to change the colour of PC’s from beige, to literally any other colour but beige! The Design Industry plays a major role in everyday life. The scope and range for applying your creativity is truly vast and filled with incredible opportunities.
